The
SEDELAN
(Editorial
office for publications in the local languages of Burkina Faso)
Within the framework of their engagement for Justice and Peace and
Integrity of Creation, the Missionaries of Africa launched a
service of edition in national languages of Burkina Faso, the
SEDELAN.
This service was born in 1997
on the initiative of Fr Maurice Oudet, a member of the
Missionaries of Africa, to meet the needs for information and
formation of the rural world. It is located in the buildings of
the Community of the Missionaries of Africa in Koudougou. It
shelters several offices, a service of reproduction and a store…
The objectives of the SEDELAN are not set once for all, but above
all seek to meet the needs for the rural world and the farmers
‘organizations of Burkina Faso.
=
Publishing documents in the local languages of Burkina Faso to
place them at the disposal of those who used effort to learn how
to read and to write… Existing documents are still very
few: what is the use of learning how to read in a language if the
reader does not have anything to read in that language thereafter?
= Supporting the organizations of the
rural world for their publications and their instruments of
communication, and thus contributing to the setting in network of
the farmer’s organizations.
= Disseminating and popularizing
information concerning the rural world, agricultures of the South
and food sovereignty.
= Taking part in the common
reflection with other NGO and organizations on all these questions
to bring a positive contribution to the development of respectful
agricultural policies about the food needs for the country, for
farmers and for environment.
Gradually,
the team of the SEDELAN increased:
today, it counts five permanents:
= Fr Maurice Oudet, person in
charge = Fr Jacques Poirier,
secretary = Fr Jacques Lacour,
assistant = Mr. Etienne de
Boissezon, data processing specialist =
Mr. David Yameogo, reprographer
It counts also many collaborators translators in a dozen languages
of the country, among them:
= Mr. Jean Gabriel Yameogo for the
Moore = Mr. Jean Gouo for the
Jula.
The web site abcburkina is the
main support of communication of the SEDELAN:
= It informs on the farming world in
Burkina Faso, a country the population of which is made up farmers
for 80%.
= It places at the disposal of those
who want it tools for the text editing in local languages of
Burkina (free remote loading), in particular of the fonts of
character and the spellcheckers adapted to the local languages.
= It proposes elements of reflection
and discussion on the problems of the rural world in Burkina Faso
and in West Africa. The weekly letter
of the web site is sent free of charge to those who
make the request of it. It is diffused to more than 2 000
persons. If you wish to receive this letter, it is possible to
register by clicking on this bond.
If
the SEDELAN created its web site, it offers also its services to
all the country organizations which would wish so and supports
already many sites, among them:
=
aproca.net (cotton producers) =
spirulineburkina.net (spiruline) =
oseo-burkina.org (bilingual schools in Burkina) =
and even the web site or the Missionaries of Africa on which you
are sailing!
Numerous publications are on sale in the SEDELAN, even if its role
is initially “to publish for the others”.
Three
quarterly reviews:
* Dugulen (Jula) * Tengembiiga (Moore) * Les amis de la
terre (French)
= Booklets
of information on the agricultural techniques (rural books of the
CESAO in Jula and Moore, among others), books for reading (wisdom,
accounts and tales).
= Two video
cassettes (one on cotton, the other on rice…) available
also in CD and DVD.
= And has
just appeared the dictionary French-Fulfulde (language of Peuls)
by Fr Denis Rabier and Mr. Aboubacar Dicko, Wali (format A4, 862
pages, connected full fabric by hand, 25.000 F CFA + port).
All provided work is possible thanks to the bonds which are
maintained with many partners:
= The CPF (Country
Confederation of Faso) = The
rooms of agriculture of Burkina =
MISEREOR (which published in German the study of Fr Maurice Oudet
on milk in Burkina) =
OXFAM =
OSEO (Swiss Organization of Working Mutual Aid) =
CNRST (Scientific and National technological Research Center) =
Of the parishes and Church institutions and many other NGO and
services…
We
believe it: Another world is possible, where each person will be
able to find her place and her dignity, where each peasant will be
able to live of his land, where each one will be able to live and
work in peace, where man will be put back in the center or the
political and economic concerns, this man that God never ceased to
love.
